These wholistic tools are options I can incorporate, if needed, in our work together.

Along with effective conventional counseling practices, they serve to increase your ability to release inner limiting beliefs, and to create a more fulfilling life from a foundation of conscious choice.

Once you learn to use any of these tools, they are yours for life on your journey towards wholeness.

Wholistic Tools for Life

Deep listening: the basis of all effective psychotherapy (and effective personal relationships), a form of active listening that attends to the multiple levels of communication present: the overt content being verbally discussed; non-verbal body language and sensations; the underlying feelings, fears, yearnings, patterns and possibilities. This deep listening-based understanding is validated for accuracy from the one being listened to.

Effective Communication: the cultivation of non-blaming communication that seeks to clarify understanding while authentically expressing personal needs and perceptions; it also cultivates the ability to “clean up” any unintended impacts of misunderstanding or reactivity.

Brain Neuro-science: Scientific studies revealing the reparable nature of our brains, due to the brain’s neuro-plasticity; offering many science-backed techniques to repair the brain from stress, as well as accessing higher brain states such as creativity and joy, and priming the brain for enlightenment.

Energy psychology: a range of techniques (such as Emotional Freedom Technique, Thought Field Therapy, Tapas Acupressure Technique), that 1) combine cognitive interventions and emotion-based states, such as visualizing peak performance or revisiting traumatic memories with 2) tapping or touching meridian points (based on traditional Chinese medicine and acupressure) to 3) release inner blocks to success, decrease intensity of traumatic memories, and install belief in successful change. Change is often quite rapid and dramatic. Research has been documenting these beneficial effects.

Core Character Strengths: Based on Positive Psychology research and developing it further, Victoria and two colleagues refined the Character Strengths Inventory. By identifying one’s “signature” or “core” character strengths and learning to live from these strengths, the client becomes more naturally effective and fulfilled, naturally able to make a meaningful contribution.

Practices of Compassion and Self-Compassion: Based on brain neuro-science studies of the brains of Tibetan monks as requested by the Dalai Lama, these practices are very accessible and highly brain reparative. They are also personally and interpersonally transformative.

Mindfulness: Incorporating 2500 year-old Eastern practices from mindfulness meditation, of non-judgmental self-witnessing, to assist the client in developing greater capacity to tolerate uncomfortable feelings; to decrease situational reactivity and angry outbursts; to develop compassionate self-awareness as a basis for exploring charged issues with less defensive reactivity and inner criticism.

Working with the pain-body: a mindfulness-based approach to access the energy-body’s response to trauma held within the body/mind/emotions, made popular by Echkart Tolle in his book featured on Oprah, A New Earth. There are both individual and collective (cultural) pain-bodies that operate unconsciously and contribute to self-defeating behaviors. In Jungian psychology, this is also called the “Shadow,” or the disowned self.

Body dialogue: paying deep attention to the way the body is responding to the verbal explorations, through decoding the language of its body sensations, tensions, inner imagery, inner messages, evoked memories; and using imaginary conversation with any of these aspects in order to help it become more conscious, to give the body a voice.

Guided imagery: a form of directed, purposeful daydreaming, using rich images and multi-sensory phrasing. It accesses right-brained, non-linear states of healing pathways that bypass the left-brained states of judging, analyzing and resisting change. Research demonstrates its beneficial effects in many areas.

HeartMath: scientifically validated techniques from the Institute of HeartMath, to lower stress, anxiety, depression, and anger; based on the intelligence of the heart, and the knowledge that the heart is 100 times more powerful than the brain in its electro-magnetic activity. Using heart-brain communication, heart rate variability biofeedback, and entrainment of the autonomic nervous system to increase the “well-being neuro-chemistry,” increase intuition, and decrease stress.

Radical self-acceptance: a mindfulness-based approach to release the perfectionism, shame, self-hatred, and toxic self-judgments that keep one’s life constricted and  unfulfilled; laying the groundwork for self-acceptance and self-love.

Conscious intention: An application of the wisdom that “energy follows thought,” that harnesses the power of conscious, purposeful, positive choice as a basis of directing change. This tool is an anti-dote for the unconscious habits of reactivity, fear-based thinking, worry, and unintended rehearsal for disappointment and disaster, that operate as unconscious choices.

Unified Quantum physics perspectives: applying understandings from this new science that inform a deeper understanding of human consciousness and how the Universe works; such as non-locality, the impact of the observer’s expectations on the outcome of an experiment, quantum entanglement, attractor fields, etc. This science changes our collective human story from the erroneous view of “Separation Consciousness” to the more ancient and new understanding, now confirmed by science, of the truth of our Unified Consciousness” of interconnection; of our oneness within diversity.

Shamanic Perspectives: The original, ancient Indigenous technologies of Oneness, teaching  Right-Relationship with Self, Earth, and Cosmos, that are currently being scientifically validated by Quantum Physics studies.

Spiritual perspectives: applying universal archetypes, ancient wisdom and modern understandings based on them, from a variety of spiritual traditions that acknowledge our expansive connections beyond the ego, to a Higher Power, to Source, to the Unified Field, to Soul, to the Collective Unconscious, to Greater Consciousness, and to the Earth, etc.

Dream work: a personalized exploration of decoding the symbolic language of one’s dreams, tapping into the wisdom of the unconscious to harness an individual’s innate impulses towards growth and wholeness.

Stress release: a variety of techniques (such as EFT tapping, Mindfulness, HeartMath Freeze Frame) to reduce the toxic effect of over-activated stress hormones, such as Cortisol and adrenaline, and to increase the beneficial effects of the well-being hormones such as DHEA.

Cellular Expansion and Healing : a revolutionary form of hands-on energy healing work that supports the resolution of constriction and illness at the level of the cells, where all imbalance begins. This allows for physical, emotional, and mental healing at the root cause, and supports living a life of joy. (This service is offered separately from therapy sessions.)

Reiki: A system of hands-on energy-based healing derived from Japan that has gained much empirical evidence for benefit and is incorporated in some hospitals and covered by some insurances due to its success.
